UPCCG Stated Supply Pastor
We welcome our new UPCCG Stated Supply Pastor, Rev. Dr. Paul O. Boger, Sr.
About Rev. Dr. Paul O. Boger, Sr. , by the Rev.
I was born, raised, and educated in Yonkers, NY. My post high school education took me to Bloomfield College (NJ) where I earned the Bachelor of Arts degree in history and philosophy. Then it was on to Chicago where I did my seminary training at McCormick Theological Seminary receiving a Master of Divinity in 1965. In 1980 I returned to McCormick from which I earned the degree of Doctor of Ministry in 1985.
I was ordained by the Presbytery of Hudson River in 1965. I began my pastoral ministry at the First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, Ohio. I departed from there in 1967 to respond to the call of the Otisville-Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in Otisville, NY. In 1971 I accepted the call of the Church on the Green, Bloomfield, NJ where I served until my retirement in October of 2002.
Over the years I have served the church through the Presbytery of Newark as Moderator of the Committee on Preparation for Ministry (1974-80); as Presbytery Moderator (1980) Moderator of the Committee on Ministry (1981-87); as a commissioner to the 1980 General Assembly and as Stated Clerk from 2000 until September 2006). I served as the Synod of the Northeast’s representative on the Board of Trustee at Bloomfield College for thirteen years and taught a course there on Religious Traditions in America.
I have four children from my first marriage: Leanne [who teaches special ed in Arizona] and Christine [a singer/actor and RN student in NYS] (twins); Laura [a medical assistant and a RN student in NJ], and Paul, Jr. [research librarian at Emery Riddle University in Florida]. I am the proud grandfather of Dylan (13), Peter (12), Hudson (5), and Elaine (3).
My wife Carolee and I live in Upper Montclair, with her son, Christopher Pescatore. Carolee is a paralegal at a Montclair law firm, an instructor of paralegal studies at FDU, and a candidate for a Master of Arts degree at Rutgers University, Newark. She is a member of the Montclair Heights Reformed Church and a deacon-elect. Although she might argue, I consider her an expert on the life of Charles Lindbergh.
Christopher attended Tufts University for three years and is finishing his Bachelor’s degree at Montclair State University with a major in Computer Science. He is a brilliant young man with a promising future. His church membership remains at the Church on the Green in Bloomfield.
I love cooking (eating, too), reading, and working in my yard. I am the author of the words to Bloomfield College’s Alma Mater, several hymns, and a Christmas Cantata, all in collaboration with William N. Simon, Minister of Music Emeritus, Church on the Green and Professor of Music Emeritus, Bloomfield College.
I rejoice in the prospect of beginning a new church year with you as we enter Advent and prepare ourselves to receive the wonderful gift of Jesus Christ, God with us, on Christmas Day. May the peace of our Lord Jesus the Christ be with you all.
See you in church, Paul
